Cash on Delivery vs Bank Transfer: Which Should You Start With?
Martyle checkout currently supports two payment methods: Cash on Delivery (COD) and Bank Transfer. Both create an order marked as unpaid, so what matters is how you confirm payment.
Cash on Delivery
Customers pay when the order arrives. It builds trust with new shoppers because there is no upfront payment. The trade-off is that some orders may be refused at the door, so confirm orders with customers before shipping.
Bank Transfer
Customers send money to your account using the instructions you provide. You receive funds before shipping, which lowers risk. The trade-off is manual work: you must check your real bank statement and match the customer's payment reference.
A safe way to decide
- Selling low-value items to new customers? COD often converts better.
- Selling higher-value or made-to-order items? Bank transfer protects you.
- Not sure? Start with one method and test it before adding another.
Whichever you pick, never mark an order paid from a screenshot alone. See the orders and payments guide and the checkout guide for setup steps.
